Wonderful Dessert / Cake Set ~ Compote and 6 Plates ~ Decorated with Purple and White Flowers ~ Laviolette / GUSTAVE DEMARTIAL & Cie Limoges, France - ca 1890 - 1893

This is a wonderful set but with a few repaired chips on the plates and a painted over flake on the compote. I just couldn't leave it sit on the dusty old shelf in that antiques shop. It would make a wonderful display set or you could actually use it if you wished to. We have priced it accordingly in hope it will find a good home!! The artist has chosen beautiful blanks with scalloped rim and shell shaped designs. For the background he has used a soft pinkish mauve and yellow on the shell design and a cream on the center of these items. He has applied a sponge gold effect around the rim and between the shell designs. The gold has taken on a beautiful patina making these exceptional fine looking pieces to behold. The floral design are transfers of purple and white flowers on soft green, blue wispy stems. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
