This Edge, Malkin & Co. "Chang" pattern is an example of nineteenth-century Chinoiserie polychrome (with luster) transferware. These outline patterns are printed in one color -- black in the main entry and green in the second entry here -- and then filled in with different colors, such as rose, lime green, dark red, buff, salmon, and dark green. In addition, they usually include gold, tan, or brown lustre. -- In this pattern, a gardener at the left puts plants into a jardiniere. To the right another person, holding a staff, is apparently watering the plants in the jardiniere. Both figures are in Oriental dress. They are framed by more flowers, vines, and leaves. One plate has a repaired rim chip otherwise they are in fantastic condition. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
