This is a beautiful majolica plate by the well known Choisy-le-Roi faience factory of Choisy-le-Roi, France. They produced majolica from 1860 until 1910. Their wears were commonly marked with a black ink stamped "Choisy-le-Roi" with the large "B". The "HB" stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery. The factory's work was some of the most delicate produced in France. The mold has three scallops on the rim giving it a unique look. They have depicted wonderful red ripe strawberries intermingled with vines and green leaves in the raised relief fashion. The bright red and green colors of the fruit and leaves really pop against the cream color of the background. The outer ridge has a raised relief leaf design adding that little extra touch. There is slight discoloration to the cream background, please see pictures. This plate is pictured in Pierre Faveton's "LES BARBOTINES" on p67. There is some slight discoloration, please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE. This would make a wonderful addition to any majolica collection. Please see our other majolica / faience plates!
