Remarkable English Earthenware Water Pitcher ~ Teal Flora, Parrot & Panels ~ Melburne Pattern ~ F. Winkle & Co Stoke on Trent England 1888

This pattern, Melbourne, is one of a series of five done by F. Winkle and named after Australian cities. It features a broad diagonal cut across the base of the pitcher from the bottom left to the top right. The design is made up of several oddly shaped cartouches, one showing a two parrots alighting on a branch, the others feature geometric or scroll-like patterns. There is a daisy within the diagonal, and floral branches fill the remainder of this beautiful teal colored design. Under the lip of the pitcher on both sides is a large teal daisy. Gold sponge accents have been applied over the design and on the white background. The handle has been done with raised relief leaf design and has been accented with gold. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is slight gold wear to the handle. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
