Fantastic large German Pitcher ~ Overlayed Silver Grapes & Vines~ Villeroy Boch Mettlach Germany ca 1880’s

The pitcher is a light putty color with grooves running from the base to the top rim. Clusters of silver grapes and vines have been applied to the body in an appliquéd technique. The silver is worn from light use, exposing a wonderful deep taupe color giving the piece even more depth. The handle has nice ridges over the top portion and ridges continuing down. The inside of the piece is a smooth creamy color. A nice wide silver band accents the top rim and the base of this wonderful piece. This is a very unique looking piece that would definitely be a conversation piece. There is a small chip on the footing edge, otherwise it is in great condition; please see picture. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE / ANTIQUE ITEMS IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.

Backstamp: Pottery cartouche applied with VB initials incised.

Measures: 11 1/2" H x 7 1/4" W
