Wonderful American Faience / Majolica Pitcher ~ Hand Painted Burgundy Brown with Art Deco Design ~ Myrian Pattern ~ DF Haynes & Co Chesapeake Pottery Baltimore MD 1900-1920

This piece still has nice bright colors and wonderful design. Its lower portion is painted a deep burgundy brown color with a matte finish that gives is a wonderful textured look. The upper portion of the bulbous base has bright royal blues, greens, and reds painted in an art deco floral design on a cream background. Black outlines really make the artwork pop! The pitchers neck has a black geometric Greek key design on each side. A gold rim completes this piece and adds just an extra touch. There are no cracks or chips on this gorgeous piece. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE Earthenware IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE. D. F. Haynes & Co., has achieved a high reputation for the variety of excellent bodies and glazes it has produced, and still greater distinction by the beauty and originality of its designs, both in form and decoration. The most original and perhaps the most refined and beautiful was the so-called Severn ware, first made in 1885. It marked "an era in the history of American ceramics." It was a fine body of a subtle grayish-olive tint. Parian ware was also produced in the same year. In 1886, the manufacture of a fine semi porcelain in a great variety of articles, both useful and ornamental, was commenced
