This beautiful piece of artwork is a duck lovers dream come true. The painting was done in the mid 1970's and personally given as a gift to a family member of mine. The artist Allen Hughes has used watercolor for the medium to create this masterpiece. The colors and definition of this Mallard drake duck is very well done. With his wings set, he is his coming down into the water or marshy area amongst the cattails. His signature is blended nicely into the brown leaves so not to distract from the main motif. The water color is in excellent condition and has been professionally framed with a double, acid free, matte an oval opening, making a nice display piece.
Already his paintings have been chosen to appear in more than thirty-five wildlife publications. ""Early Arrivals"" was the cover art for May-June Ducks Unlimited Magazine. Twelve of his twenty-one limited edition prints are ""sold out."" In 1977 his entry was chosen as the design for Mississippi's Waterfowl Stamp. The Memphis, Tennessee, plastic surgeon has won ten ""Best of Show"" ribbons at the Midwest Wildlife Art Show. In addition to being the featured artist in 1972, he was the first person to win top honors for both painting and carving. At the 1979 National Wildlife Art Show, Dr. Hughes received a plaque naming him the ""Most Outstanding Wildlife Artist."""
