Gorgeous Salt & Pepper Shakers ~ Osborne Art Studio Decorated and Signed ~ Cobalt Blue and Purple with Gold Design ~ 1917 – 1940
These are the prettiest set I’ve seen in a long time. According to Alan Reed’s “Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China “,Osborne was the only Chicago china artist of any stature to use his first name for his studio name and signature. Osborne did not use a backstamp on much of his product, being content to sign his name on the piece. An Osborne piece signed by anyone other than himself has yet to be found. The pepper shaker has a deep purple band around the upper portion of the shaker and the salt has a cobalt blue band. Within the colored bands gold beads have been painted. The upper portion of the set has been completely painted with roman coin gold. At on e time the gold had embossed work on it but a lot of it is worn off. You can still see the designs and it is still very beautiful. Gold bead swag designs in painted from the golden top onto the cream white bases. A gold trim has been applied to the base of each piece. There are no chips, hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
This is a collectors dream!!!!
Backstamp: Signed Osborne in cursive (more than like done by Osborne himself) Measures: 3 5/8" T X 1 5/8"w
