Two stunning 14" High, Japanese Lacquer panels ~ Birds & Bamboo ~ Early 1900’s

Beautiful creations have been made upon the shiny black lacquer covering on these panels. Pieces of wood, bone, mother of pearl and possibly plastic have been glued into and on the lacquer to create birds in flight, bamboo plants and flowers. The decorations are slightly raised up from the lacquer giving a nice three dimensional look and feel. The use of the different mediums gives different textures and color to the decorations. The lacquer on the panels have a few cracks, the corners and edges have nicks and minimal lacquer loss, and one of the bird's beak has raised off the panel. It appears that some pieces may have been replaced at one time or another but this is piece is still stunning! Please see pictures for condition. The panels are slightly cut rounded and have two pieces of wood used for hanging on the reverse side. If you would like more pictures please let us know and we can email them to you.
