Gorgeous Iranian Khatamkari Desk Accessory with two Brass Pen/Pencil Holders and Wood Marquetry
This piece would complement and desk! Business card, envelopes, or notepad sits securely in slot attached towards the back. Note that the back shows same craftsmanship as the front so it can be admired from either side. The holder sits on four raised feet (1/4") for added dimension. Traditional khatamkari is a delicate and meticulous marquetry that has been produced in Iran for over 700 years. This craft consists of producing incrustation patterns, generally star shaped, with thin sticks of wood (such as ebony or, teak), brass for the golden parts, and camel bones for the white parts. Sticks are assembled in triangular beams, assembled and glued in a strict order to create a cylinder whose cross-section is the main motif: a six-branch star included in a hexagon. These cylinders are cut into shorter cylinders, and then compressed and dried, before being sliced for the last time, in 1 mm wide tranches. These sections are ready to be plated and glued on the object to be decorated, before lacquer finishing.
