The wonderful old tile has been hand painted with a beautiful scene of a river, bridge, thatched roofed house and trees, all done in sepia colors. Extremely well painted and the treatment of the foliage which often tends to be overdone and dominate, here it is lightly and brightly done as if in sunlight. The tile is in an old frame which possibly could be original to the tile. The frame appears to be wood with gesso and paint on top. The frame itself is remarkable with only slight gesso wear! It has a raised design on the front and a wonderful gold, black, and silver finish. The tile itself has a couple of scratches and minor crazing due to age. It appears to have a repainted spot near the very top and there is a glaze run that can only be seen when viewed from the side. The back of the tile has chips at the corners which are not visible from the front. Please see pictures for condition. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
