This Mintons ceramic tile, dating to the Victorian period, has a black transfer over a creamy gold colored background around the center motif that is on a white background. The tile is entitled “Hagar and Ishmael in the Desert” from the Old Testament series of tiles designed by Moyr Smith. This is created with the transfer in a mirrored image so the designer; Moyr Smith initials appear with SM in reverse. On this tile we see Hagar with her empty water vessel sitting on a rock looking up to the heavens asking for help. Ishmael is lying close by. The tile has a few flea bites on the edge but otherwise is in wonderful condition.
A great piece for the tile collector or to add it to existing tile work!
