Fantastic Faience / Majolica Magenta Pedestal 19 1/2'' high ~ Hand Decorated with Yellow & Purple Pansies ~ CHESAPEAKE POTTERY - D.F. HAYNES & SON Co. (Baltimore, USA) - ca 1900 – 1914

This is a gorgeous piece made by Chesapeake Pottery / D. F. Haynes and Son, Co., Baltimore MD in the early 1900’s. The base of the pieces has four feet with arches connecting them. Each foot has leaf like raised relief designs that are painted a deep magenta with gold accents defining the leaf. The magenta background softens slight to a lighter shade between the leaf decorations. A ridge on top of the base has raised designs that have a light pink shade and gold accents and gold bands separating it from the base. Two sets of raised arches one within the other is extending from the ridge upward. The inner one is a light pink and the outer is magenta. The bulbous body has hues of magenta, pink and cream for the background. Beautiful bouquet transfers of purple and yellow pansies that have deep purple and yellow centers with green leaves and grasses are placed above each magenta footing. The upper portion of the bulbous base has eight raised relief leaf designs in a deep magenta background highlighted with gold accents. Another ridge is between the base and upper platform top. Its design is similar to the lower ridge. The upper platform has pink background in between gold bands with gold partitions and deep magenta background on raised leaves accented with gold for the wide rim. The top of the pedestal has a wide pink band, deep magenta band and a pansies transfer in the middle. Raised relief of gold bands separate the different background colors on the top. It is truly a breathtaking piece of old faience that you do not get the opportunity to see very often. It does have two small chips out of the gold rims on top, it appears that they tried to be repaired. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA / FAIENCE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
