Black Japanese Asian Lacquer Match Box Decorated with an Oriental Scene~ Age: c1868 - 1912 (Meiji Period)

This little black lacquer lidded box is decorated with polychrome and gold gilt Asian genre scene. The scene has beautiful gold flowers, pagoda, trees and birds in the background. In the foreground three men in oriental attire are standing in front of the pagoda. The heads and hand of the men are done in a cream color and have facial features outlined in black. It has a striking area to light the old wooden style matches connected to the base of the lidded box that would hold the matches. There is a some wear to the gold gilt design but it is still a very neat piece of Tobacciana.

Age: c1868 - 1912 (Meiji Period)

Measures: 3 1/2" L x 3 ¼" W X 2" H
