Harper's Weekly was the single most popular newspaper during the Civil War, and it featured superior illustrations and in depth stories. Many of the important Political leaders, Military leaders and major events of the war are revealed.

I am offering you 8 original issues including (4) 1861 issues, (3) 1862 issues and (1) 1863 issue.

Each issue is complete and all have uncut pages meaning they have never been read page-by-page. These newspapers are folded in the manor they were as they came off the printers press in the 1860's. July 20, 1861 - A very nice eye witness illustration of Harper's Ferry, The Brooklyn Navy-Yard, and Pirates. There is news of the daily War and a good description of the Battle of Martinsburg.

Aug 3, 1861 - This issue includes a number of important events of the war. It describes eye-witness illustrations of the events and important news of the day. It also has the first account and first edition reports detailing coverage of the Battle of Bull Run.

Sept.7, 1861 - This high-demand 1861 Harper's Weekly issue has a nice selection of important content regarding War. The front cover has a lovely illustration of a true Southern Belle. There is a story on General Ben McCulloch including a map. The issue also has illustrations of Winchester, VA and Fort Lafayette.

Nov.16,1861 – A very important and high-demand issue showing President Lincoln, General Winfield Scott and Lincoln's Cabinet. This issue is detailing the retirement (asked to resign) of General Scott. There are illustrations of General Freemont's charge through Springfield, MO. Also included are illustrations of various Union Navy vessels.

Jan.11, 1862 – The front page has a full illustration of the sinking of the Stone Fleet in Charleston Harbor. This issue is filled with numerous full page illustrations and political satire. On page 24 and 25 is a 2-page fully illustrated with 7 panels of a political cartoon called "Fairy Tales told by The Little Folks". Great issue!

March 15, 1862 – Includes a report and illustrations of Fort Donelson and one of the 2nd. Iowa Regiment attacking Rebel batteries at the fort. A message to Jefferson Davis and several wonder illustrations, as well as an illustrated war map of Virginia.

March 29, 1862 – The full size front page illustration depicts Col.Fry in Eastern Tennessee and his men swearing allegiance to the Union. Other articles or illustrations include Pea Ridge, a 2-page War map showing the Union and the CSA. Also there are great views of Gen.McClellan at Bull Run.

May 9, 1863 – Fully illustrated front page showing a Union picket duty in the Louisiana swamp. The lower right corner has been detached. Other key articles or illustrations include a written warning to England about their support to the CSA, details about a hospital ship, illustrations of helping runaway slaves and a political cartoon of Jefferson Davis.

The condition of the group is very good overall. There are a few pages detached from the original thread binding ties. Stains and tears are occasionally found within the 8 issues. You will not find the condition to be of concern when you see the group.
