Beautiful German Porcelain Demitasse Cup and Saucer ~ Hand Painted Quatrefoil Panels of Courting Scenes ~ADOLPH HAMANN Dresden Germany - ca 1866 - ca 1950s

This is an exquisite cup and saucer by Hamann in the classical scenes alternating and 19th Century styling. A four panel Watteau like classical scenes alternating design gives way to fine delicately designed gold gilt dividers. The love of wonderful colors and intricate work is evident in the 2 beautiful courting scene panels of these pieces. The other 2 panels have a deep brick red background with colorful flowers painted upon them. There is a black iron spec on the inside of the cup. There are no cracks, chips; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.

The term "Dresden porcelain" refers more to an artistic movement than a particular line of figurines or dinnerware. Several decorating studios emerged in this Saxony capital in response to the rise of "Romanticism" during the 19th century. Dresden was an important center of this artistic, cultural and intellectual movement, which attracted painters, sculptors, poets, philosophers and porcelain decorators alike. In 1883, in response to the exciting developments happening all around them, four prominent ceramic decorators registered the famous blue crown Dresden mark, and the widely popular "Dresden style" was born.
