Magnificent Rare Chalice / Cup ~ Limoges Porcelain ~ Hand Painted with Pink, White and Magenta Roses ~ Artist Initialed ~ Jean Pouyat Limoges France 1890-1910
This is a Limoges collectors dream! This is a piece that is rare and it is very exciting to have found one. The creator of this masterpiece has initialed the bottom M.L. taking pride in his work. In our opinion whoever he or she is ranks right up there with the best porcelain painters. The artist has started at the base with a brick red background that melds into a variegated green background as it proceeds up this massive piece. He has painted bold magenta roses at the base with thorny stems and green leaves winding up the base to the bowl of the chalice. The artist then changes the roses to a wonderful cotton candy pink with yellow and black centers and white roses with rich yellow and black centers. He shows the progression of life by including brand new rose buds waiting to open, roses with just a few petals left and some rose flowers without petals. The pink and white roses are weaving around the bulbous body of chalice providing remarkable artwork from whatever angle you view this beauty. The artist has added a golden rim finishing this piece nicely. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Manufacturing anomalies may exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
