Delightful English Aesthetic Earthenware Tureen with Underplate ~ Blue & White Transfers ~ C Challinor England 1892-1906

This pattern, Melbourne named after the Australian city. It has deep blue floral and geometric boarder around the underplate, the outer edge of the rim and the sides of the dish. It features a broad diagonal design that cuts across the boarder. There is a daisy within the diagonal, and floral branches flow nicely onto the white background of the plate and lid. There is raised relief on the handles and around the center of the lid. The handles have the same beautiful blue transfers applied to them. There is notch in the lid for that special silver ladle! This piece has two hairline cracks in two corners a small hairline on the lid where the ladle will fit and a chip on the base rim. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
