Nice Blue English Earthenware Transferware Bowl or Large Saucer ~ Courtship Scene ~ Rowland & Marcellus Staffordshire England 1860-1900

This would make a very nice decorative piece either sitting on a table or displayed in a stand. The colors are deep cobalt blue with a lighter blue used to help make up this classic transfer. The boarder is made up of swags, scrolls and geometric designs using different shades of blues with white mixed in. The center has an 18th century courtship scene. At first I thought this was a bowl but then noticed it had a well in the center. As large as it is it may have been an under saucer for a small pitcher. There are no chips, or cracks on this wonderful old piece. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
