1950 Bing & Grondahl Christmas Jubilee Plate ~ “Eskimos ” by Achtin Friis

This 1950 Bing & Grondahl Christmas Jubilee plate was issued to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the first Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate in 1895. The motif of this 1950 Bing & Grondahl Christmas Jubilee plate is the same as the motif of the 1928 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate. The title of this plate is Eskimos Looking at the Church of Their little Village in Greenland. Bing & Grondahl has been making the Christmas Jubilee Series since 1915 to commemorate the beginning of the Christmas plate tradition in 1895. A new plate has been released every 5th year since that time. It is drilled for hanging and would make a wonderful addition to your collection. It is in excellent condition. Each Christmas season two Danish Christmas plates are published, one by Bing and Grondahl, whose first Christmas plate appeared in 1895, the other by the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory, whose series began in 1908 with an issue of 2165 copies. In both series, cobalt blue underglaze decoration on hard porcelain is employed, and the designs, of Christmas significance, include Danish scenes as well as sacred motifs.
