This is a breathtaking piece of workmanship and subject matter! We feel this is Dubois' "Diana And Her Nymphs" Hunting bear and boar. The master artist Dubois is well known for creating superb pieces of artwork on porcelain and this piece is truly one of his best! He has chosen a wonderful rococo scalloped rimmed, deep set plaque to create his master piece. He has painted the raised relief edge with Roman coin gold bring your attention to the center. The main motif is a female hunting party killing a bear! Dubois has given some of the women long flowing hair and others have their hair tightly in buns. He has used beautiful colors of blue, teal and pink draping cloth over white gowns. The skin tones and facial features are so amazing! Two of the huntresses appear to have brown animal hides over white gowns. One archer has released her arrow and it has reached its mark in the bear's side. Another archer is reaching for her arrow. While another hunter is perched atop the rocks ready with her spear in case she needs to assist in the kill. Another archer is holding back three hunting dogs keeping them safely away from the game that they have found for their masters. The artist has added two young females peering over the rocks possibly in training so they too will be hunters one day. Dubois has added raised white enamel on the clothing and the dogs giving it a nice look. The artist has used a mixture of grays, purples, browns, greens, and amber to give a wonderful rocky look around the bears and hunting party. The background has a wonderful mixture of pastels making a wonderful sunset or sunrise appearance over a beautiful blue violet body of water. He has used the combination of the color on this piece to complement each other and to balance out the motif. The back has four drilled holes for hanging this fantastic piece. This piece has a paper label marked LRL but not a stamped LRL mark. We have checked in our research books and have identified the mold shape as one used by the porcelain factory Lazeyras, Rosenfeld & Lehman. The gold is slightly worn on the edge but definitely does not take away from the beauty. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Manufacturing anomalies may exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
