A great example of a nineteenth century English, Victorian mourning hatpin*. I love the stark simplicity of the graceful egg shape of the gunmetal top. Nice flat finish and long blackened steel shaft.
Total length is 11", the top is 1.75" with a 3.25" circumference around the center. Excellent condition, no damage and minimal wear. A beautiful and dramatic Victorian mourning hatpin.
*These hatpins were made after the death of Prince Albert in 1861, when Queen Victoria went into mourning for the next 25 years, with most of the nation following suit.
