Tin Spittoon / Cuspidor Make-do Candle Holder - Civil War Era Japanned

This is a nice old tinsmith-made piece, measuring 4 1/4" in diameter. x 3" high. The removable top piece has sloped sides and a little ring pull to help with opening the lid when it became necessary to remove the contents. It has a flat bottom, rolled edge handle, solder is tight, and the lid opens easily. The interior has some minor surface oxidation. Most of the original japanning is still present, what is worn off reveals the dark tin surface. This makes an unusual candle holder ...the opening is 1" in diameter.
