Small metal Chinese scholars inkstone box engraved on top surface with a landscape scene with goats, mountains and calligraphy. Reverse is marked with what appears to be an Oriental signature along with the number 18 (Chinese used arabic numerals for hundreds of years). The box is brass and measures about 1 7/8 inches square. The top is lined with glass (cracked) for mixing. The bottom has the remnants of dry ink. As to condition, the box is obviously very old, the inside shows signs of much use. The exterior also shows age and use wear, it is darker than shown in the photos as I had to lighten to show the design, however, one photograph is shown as the box appears to the naked eye.
