c.1910-1920 Louis Wolf Key Wind Mechanical Walking Composition Doll

This is a highly unusual all original 11" tall circa 1910-1920 Louis Wolf key wind mechanical walking doll with composition head and hands. Louis Wolf & co. was in business 1870 - 1925+ and had offices in Germany in Sonneberg, and in the United States in Boston, Mass. and New York City. They designed and assembled dolls as well as importing and distributed them. This doll's head is marked LW.8.Co on the back of the shoulder plate. The doll's shoulder head is secured to a metal torso that houses the wind up mechanism. Thelegs are also metal, with large metal shoes painted white with wheels underneath. The upper arms are soft stuffed. The key wind mechanism does work. Wind it up and the legs go back and forth, however when you place him on the floor the mechanism doesn't seem to have the strength to make him move. He is dressed in off white cotton trousers and a blue and white striped shirt.

Condiition: Key wind mechanism works but doesn't move well on the floor. There are a couple cracks in the shoulder plate radiating from the attachment to the body. Pants are age discolored.

This charming doll has cross over appeal for both composition doll collectors and for collectors of early key wind toys.
