This is a beautiful antique allegorical brooch depicting Greek Gods Eros and Aphrodite, or Roman Gods Cupid and Venus. Eros is seated in the center and is offering a dish to Eros. There are young winged cupids on either side and dog rests on the ground below Aphrodite. Another figure looks down on them from above. The back of the brooch has an old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp. The brooch is unmarked. The metal tests positive for silver content of sterling grade.
The brooch weighs 17.3 gr. It measures 1.5" x 1.625".
Condition is good. There is some expected surface wear that has slightly softened the features and detail on the high points.
There is a great deal of detail in this tiny work of art. Wearing this brooch is like wearing a whole story.
