This is a highly unusual vintage Bakelite and horn dress clip. The top of the clip has a trapezoidal chunk of green Bakelite with 2 large horns below. The horns are actually made from natural animal horn. The green material tests positive as Bakelite. The metal clip on the back is marked 'HETL' REG.U.S.PAT.DPP. I suspect that 'HETL' may refer to C.R.Hettel Jewelry Co. of St. Louis, MO which was in business from 1890 and on through sometime in the mid 20th c.
The clip measures 3" long by 2.5" across at the widest point. It is .5" thick.
Condition is good.
This is such a bizarre piece. I can imagine it springing jauntily from a circa 1940s lady's hat. Rather wicked!
