This is a fanciful circa 1920s-1930s Egyptian Revival style celluloid scarab beetle bug brooch. The brooch is unmarked but resembles similar pieces I have found bearing French markings. The insect is made from tortoise shell colored early plastic celluloid. It has a hooded C clasp and typical pin stem on back. The bugs eyes are set with tiny rhinestones.
This brooch measures 1.875" x 1.125".
Condition is good. The rhinestone eyes have darkened though.
A perfect little creepy crawly to wear for Halloween, or whenever the spirit moves you.
