Antique Victorian Coin Silver Odd Fellows Crossed Swords Pendant

This is a large Victorian period coin silver Odd Fellows crossed swords pendant with decorative engraved patterns on both sides. One sword is stamped COIN and the metal tests positive for high silver content. Coin silver is usually slightly less than sterling grade. I estimate that this piece is approximately 900 grade silver. In Freemasonry crossed swords on the Bible represent protection of God's Holy Word. Crossed swords such as this one may have been worn by the Inner Guard. This one currently hangs on a red satin ribbon.

The pendant weighs 19.9 gr. It measures a substantial 4.5" long by 1.875" wide at the top.

Condition is good, with patina left intact.

Another meaning of crossed swords with points directed down is peace, or end of battle. Crossed swords pointing down are sometimes used on the tombstones of soldiers, indicating their battle is over. Certainly this distinctive antique pendant bears great symbolism and mystery. It would make the most unique gift.
