This is a very fine antique Victorian period hand painted portrait miniature of a beautiful woman wearing a Grecian gown and holding a wreath of flowers over her head. Her diaphanous gown is white and she has a blue veil over her head. Her hair is worn long, with tendrils of curls on her shoulders. The background is solid and dark. No signatures are evident. The painting is contained within a simple gold filled bezel, all of which is affixed to a pale oink silk brocade background, within a round carved wooden frame. The frame has 2 small knob feet at the base and a single hinged stand in back. The frame has an old paper label on the back for C&A Schwicker Artists Manufactory of Every Kind of Frames 21 Piazza Pitti Florence.
The overall size including from is 6" in diameter. The miniature portrait painting alone measures 2" in diameter.
Condition of the miniature is good. The wooden frame has a split at the top and one of the little knob legs appears to have been re-glued.
This beauty would be a fine addition to any collection of antique portrait miniatures.
