This is an unusual circa early 1900s French brooch containing an impressionistic miniature painting of a church under an arched glass cover. The setting is brass. The back has an old fashioned trombone style sliding tube clasp. It is marked FRANCE and a makers mark of GIL inside a diamond shape. the painting is also signed but is illegible to me. The church resembles Sacre Coeur Basilica, but may be another landmark church.
The brooch measures 1" x 1.5". The painting along measures .75" x 1".
Condition is good with expected patina.
This is quite an unusual brooch. I quite like miniature paintings in antique and vintage jewelry. What better way to wear a piece of art.
