Art Nouveau 18K Joan of Arc Enamel Brooch by Limoge Paul Bonnaud
This is an exquisite enameled 18K gold brooch, made and signed by Paul Bonnaud of Limoge, depicting Joan of Arc. The brooch bears the French eagle head gold standard mark on the side edge below the hinge of the pin. The metal tests positive for 18K gold. The brooch has a standard pin stem and older style safety clasp.
During the early 1900s enamel artists such as Paul Bonnaud used a combination of nontransparent, transparent and opalescent enamels in combination with golden and silver foil. Paul Bonnaud (1873-1953) was the recognized master of this Art Nouveau technique, and this brooch holds one of his petite master pieces.
Joan of Arc is depicted as a lovely maiden with a long brown twist of hair down her back and an iridescent laurel wreath in her hair. She is dressed in Steely blue armor and holds a sword, as she faces in profile to the viewers left.
The brooch weighs 6.7 gr. It measures a little over 1" in diameter and the bezel is .125" deep.
Condition is good.
This is a gorgeous signed example by this famed artisan, and an excellent gem to add to you collection
