Jade Bird Chinese Qing 19thc. Coin Silver Hair Pin Ornament

This is a 19th century Qing dynasty period Chinese carved jade hair pin in low grade coin silver setting. The jade stone is light mottled green from almost white to bright green and is carved to resemble a bird among some foliage - or at least I think that is what it represents. There are no markings. The metal tests positive for silver content but of a lower grade equivalent to approximately 800 - 900 silver.

This hair pin weighs 5 gr. It measures a total length of 4". The jade portion is .75" long by about .5" across.

Condition is good with expected patina and irregularities in the pin prong from use. There is some old glue residue visible at the base of the jade.

This elegant hair accessory was a must have addition to the coiffure of aristocratic Chinese ladies in the 1800s. Each one is carved slightly differently, and several could be worn at once. I have a small collection of them that I will be be offering individually.
