This is an attractive Victorian period sterling silver bloodstone Maltese cross pendant on sterling silver necklace chain. There are no markings but the pendant and chain both test positive for silver content of sterling grade. The pendant is in the form or a squared Maltese cross with a round bloodstone center. The back of the locket has a small round compartment that can be pried open to insert a memento of your choice. It is currently empty.
The 17" long chain I believe is a slightly later addition, circa 1930s, The chain is composed of lengths of simple round links alternating with single longer links, and with larger round links leading up to the tube clasp.
Condition: There is a small indentation in the back of the locket. The stone is currently loose in its setting, appearing to have never been glued in place, so when you open the back compartment you can remove the stone. Personally I recommend securing the stone in place with a little jeweler's glue. The pendant is attached to one link of the chain, with the clasp off center. If this is a bother then a jeweler could easily change this so the pendant moves freely on the chain.
This is a handsome antique necklace, suitable for man or woman. Though a man might need a longer chain.
