This is an unusual antique Victorian period mourning necklace and pendant composed of Whitby jet and carved bog oak. The pendant is jet, with one side faceted and etched with stylized initials - perhaps MOI. The other side would have originally held a photo of a loved one of a locket of hair but now has a carved shell cameo of the Gemini twins in that place. The necklace is strung beads of jet, bog oak, and smaller gold plated spacer beads. The necklace has no clasp as it is long enough to put over the head.
The necklace measures 26" around. The pendant is 1.5" x 2", excluding the bail.
Condition: There are a few small nibbles on the jet pendant, mostly visible on the cameo side.
This is an unusual mourning necklace, very easy to wear.
