This is an unusual all original 6.5" tall wax over composition doll with necklace and earrings. She has a mid 1800s transitional hair style between covered wagon and flat top. The shoulder head, arms and legs were made from a composition base material with high gypsum content which was then dipped in wax. Facial features, hair and shoes were painted on. The earrings and necklace were applied in wax. The body is cloth, probably stuffed with sawdust.
Condition: There is some separation of the wax from composition base and some wax loss, but it appears to be stable. She has no clothes.
I have seen many poured wax dolls and wax over composition dolls, but this little lady is very different from the usual doll of this sort. One other similar doll brought to my attention wears a dress with a Mexican flag emblem of the sort in use from the late 1800s to early 1900s, so it's possible that this doll may be of South American origin. She deserves to be clothed and preserved.
