This is a modern painted (by me) miniature lover's eye contained within an antique 9K gold locket pendant, and suspended from a vintage gilded metal chain.
I have long dealt in antique jewelry, and thus accumulated some old empty settings. I decided to use my other skill as a painter to make some of them into 'Lover's tokens', after the Georgian and early fashion of exchanging such images. This particular miniature painting was done on paper using first a pencil sketch, then watercolor. The painting is encased under glass original to the pendant setting. This locket also still held a scrap of paper with old faded brown script writing on it, which I retained to be visible from the back. The back of this pendant has a celluloid cover instead of glass, also original.
The pendant is unmarked but the metal tests positive for low gold content of 9K grade. I matched the gilded metal chain to it.
The chain is 22" long. The pendant measures 1.625" x 1.125".
Condition is good. Keep in mind that though the painting is new, all jewelry parts are old and may have some modest signs of wear in keeping with their age.
I am an active artist, but have so far not listed my art work on Ruby Lane. Consider this little piece a start, and I may have more coming soon if this one meets with approval.
