This is a 19th century Qing dynasty period Chinese carved jade hair pin in low grade coin silver setting. The jade stone is bright dark green and is carved to resemble a bent scoop. There are no markings. The metal tests positive for silver content but of a lower grade equivalent to approximately 800 -900 silver.
This hair pin weighs 2.8 gr. It measures a total length of 3.5". The jade portion is 1.25" long by a little over .25" across.
Condition is good with expected patina and irregularities in the pin prong from use.
This elegant hair accessory was a must have addition to the coiffure of aristocratic Chinese ladies in the 1800s. Each one is carved slightly differently, and several could be worn at once. I have a small collection of them that I will be be offering individually.
