This is a 19th century Qing dynasty period Chinese carved jade hair pin in low grade coin silver setting. The jade stone is slightly mottled pale green and is carved to resemble a pointed knob. There are no markings. The metal tests positive for silver content but of a lower grade equivalent to approximately 800 -900 silver.
This hair pin weighs 6.3 gr. It measures a total length of 4.875". The jade portion is 1.25" long by about .375" across.
Condition is good with expected patina and irregularities in the pin prong from use.
This elegant hair accessory was a must have addition to the coiffure of aristocratic Chinese ladies in the 1800s. Each one is carved slightly differently, and several could be worn at once. I have a small collection of them that I will be be offering individually.
