This is an unusual 8.5" tall all original antique circa 1860s wooden lady doll. This doll has a torso and head carved as one unit. The wooden arms are wire hinged to the shoulders and the upper arms are wrapped with tow, linen fibers. The wooden legs attached the same way. The linen fibers were also used to make her wig. She retains her complete original costume consisting of a green silk dress with brocade sleeves and and white over blouse with drawn work patterns. Under the skirt is a mesh under skirt and a petticoat of paper.
Condition is remarkably intact. She does show paint loss to the head, and some holes in the back of her skirt.
When she raises her arms she has a "take me to your leader" alien look that amuses me. Her spikey little fingers and overly small feet are also rather funny. She is a peculiar old girl, quite unique, and definitely something to appeal to a collector who likes the more unusual over the more beautiful dolls.
