Antique Victorian Glazed Porcelain Relief Child Portrait Sterling Brooch
This is a beautiful antique Victorian period glazed china porcelain plaque with a molded relief portrait of a child's profile, set in a closed back sterling silver brooch setting. The setting is unmarked but tests positive for silver content of sterling grade. The plaque has a subtle gray blue glaze and a gold gilded border. It is firmly held in place by 6 large prongs. The brooch setting has a solid back with a simple pin stem and C clasp closure. Pin stem is brass but the back plate of the brooch is sterling.

The brooch measure 1.625" in diameter. It weighs 18.6 gr.
Condition: There are fine craze lines in the glaze that I consider part of the firing process, but no chips of cracks in the porcelain. There is some wear to the gilding on the border.
The porcelain may well have a maker's mark on the back, but I did not wish to risk chipping it by removing it to look. This is a handsome piece, subtle and unusual too.
