This is a fine circa 1940s vintage signed REBAJES copper layered leaves choker necklace. The necklace is cleverly constructed of rows of interlocking leaf like links so that it will lie comfortably on the neck and move with you, like the spine of a snake. The necklace is signed REBAJES on the push tab clasp. The copper has a purposefully applied patina to give it depth and color. It should not be polished.
This necklace measures 16" long and is .875" wide.
Condition is good.
If you are not familiar with the story of Francisco Rebajes, it is a tale worthy of a movie. He came to NY in 1922 as a 16 year old ship stowaway from the Dominican Republic. He rose from a penniless and homeless street urchin to having a store on 5th Avenue showcasing his original designs. He is a true American success story.
