This is a high quality vintage Japanese shakudo mixed metal box with scene of Mount Fuji depicted in silver and gold. The mountain is in silver and the pin trees in gold and copper. Shakudō (赤銅) is a metal of gold and copper (typically 4–10% gold, 96–90% copper) which is treated to form an indigo/black patina. This box opens to reveal 2 gold interior compartments with slanted bottoms. I am not sure what this box was meant to contain, cosmetics? stamps? The box stands on short notched square feet. It is marked on the bottom with a maker's mark that I have not been able to identify so far.
The box measures 2.75" x 1.5" x .625".
Condition is over all good. There is one spot on the lid where the dark patina has worn away revealing the coppery color below.
This is a fine example of Japanese shakudō metal work.
