Antique Sailor Scrimshaw Carved Whale Bone & Hair Watch Chain
This is a one of a kind antique folk art sailor scrimshaw carved whale bone and human hair watch chain. Each link of the chain portion is made from tightly woven black hair. The carved hook has a snake or serpent like form with a bird perched on top. The fob is carved as an arch with a moving book held inside. The book has a leaf design carved on each side. The center carving has a heart on one side and a diamond shape on the other. The chain ends in a single round carved link and then a more typical metal dog clip to attach to a watch.
