Vintage Sterling Vermeil Large Etched Japanese Geisha Pendant

This is a large vintage sterling vermeil pendant featuring a slab of black glass or onyx etched with a lovely Japanese Geisha lady. The setting is marked STERLING on the back. The etched design is detailed, showing a stylized woman with turned head, hair worn up with a stick pin on top, a loosely worn kimono robe, and chrysanthemum like flowers along the right side. The design appears to have been etched, giving a frosted appearance to the details contrasting with shinier smooth areas. The black centerpiece is securely held by a simple box bezel setting with closed back, accented by ribbon like curlicues down each side. There is a generous bail at the top for a chain. The sterling setting has a gold vermeil finish.

This pendant weighs 59.8 gr. It measures almost 3.5" long from the top of the bail to the bottom of the longest curlicue, 2" across, and .25" thick.

Condition is good.

I appreciate the overall asymmetrical design of this piece. The etched scene is subtle, appearing and disappearing when viewed from different angles and as the light catches it. This is a very interesting and probably one of a kind piece.
