This is an intriguing antique sterling silver brooch dating from the 1800s Indian British Raj period that I believe depicts the God Vishnu riding on his bird mount Garuda. The brooch is unmarked but tests positive for silver content of sterling grade. The figure of Vishnu is shown riding on the back of the bird. The bird's wings can be seen behind Vishnu's back. The bird's head is turned toward Vishnu and Vishnu appears to be holding the bird's beak open. The figures are in relief against a highly textured decorative background. The back is plain with a T hinge pin stem and C clasp catch.
This brooch weighs 13.1 gr. It measures 1.25" x 1.5".
Condition is good.
