This is a charming antique mid 19th century 13" tall peg wooden jointed doll with her original clothing. With the bonnet she is 14" tall. Her clothes are tattered but original. She has a wig made from dark reddish brown hair, topped by a bonnet made from pasteboard covered in remnants of lace. Her silk paid dress is mostly gone now, revealing her cotton petticoat and pantaloons.
Her face is simply carved, with the nose twisted to one side, giving her a lot of personality. She is jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Her left arm was replaced from a later donor doll, so it is slightly smaller and lighter in color.
She is a good early example of this simple type of doll. These were inexpensive when made, and were produced for close to 100 years. She is a rare early survivor play doll. Her condition is not perfect, but a testament to being played with.
