This is a vintage circa 1940s-50s Japanese black lacquer musical jewelry box in the shape of a piano that plays Fleur de Lise. The box has mother of pearl inlay on what would be the key board cover, but this opens to reveal another compartment. It has the original key too. The top of the piano box is decorated with a Japanese scene of a house, garden boat and mountain. the lif lifts up to reveal a ballerina who turns as the music plays. the interior compartments are lined in red velvet. The inside of the lid has 2 mirrors. The box is marked on the bottom KS under a mountain and inside of a flower plus the words Made in Japan.
The box measures 11" x 8.5" x 7".
Condition: One mirror is cracked. There are a few edge bumps through the black lacquer. Music plays well and the dancer turns.
What a unique gift this would make for a girl who plays the piano.
