Early 1900s Miniature Painting of Girl w/ Cherries in Sterling Pendant Brooch

This is a lovely circa early 1900s sterling silver pendant brooch containing a hand painted miniature of a sweet little girl with a basket and holding up a pair of cherries. The painting is encased in the locket under glass and has not been removed to determine the material it is painted on. The setting is encircled by a row of marcasites, with more stones set on the folding bail. The setting is marked Made in France on the back and also stamped STERLING though this mark is mostly hidden under the bail.

The pendant weighs 21.3 gr. It measures 1.5" across by 1.875" tall, excluding the bail.

Condition: There is some minor wear to the painting notable under magnification. The clasp for the brooch is a tube style and may have originally had a sliding trombone type mechanism as well that is now gone. The clasp still functions well and holds the pin stem securely with out this though.

I love fold away bails that hide behind when wearing as a brooch, then fold out to be used as a pendant. The image in this painting is well done and an especially endearing subject matter.
