Early Antique 21.5" Silk over Cotton Cloth Baby Doll
The doll is lovingly well constructed of soft stuffed cotton. The lower arms, legs and the head were covered in a thin layer of silk, probably to give a more natural skin color. Fingers and toes are stitched. Eyes, eyebrows and lips were drawn on - though now faded. Ears are well formed. There doesn't appear to have ever been hair.
Provenance - this doll came from England and is presumed to have originated there.
Condition: The silk covering is delicate and is splitting in some areas. There is wear over the lip and nose, and one bit of silk is coming loose on the forehead. Some age discoloration and wear on hands. The dress has a couple small stains and a couple small holes. The slip has a tear through the lace trim that needs repair.
This is a hard to find early cloth doll. A rare survivor and fine example of its kind.
